ANSWER:

Add the total # in the herd in 2001 to the # of calves born in 2002. Subtract this number from the total # in the herd in 2002. Continue this process for each year.

OR

Subtract the number of females in the first year from those in the second year for the same birth year. Do the same for the males. Continue this process for each age class (by birth year), adding all the numbers together at the end.
