Abstract:
Kz_slope is an ARC/Info coverage derived from a triangulated irregular network (TIN) surface model of KPRNA. The TIN was derived from USGS 1:24,000 digital elevation models (DEMs). Kz_slope contains attributes for slope, aspect, surface area, and area. Kz_slopes can be used for calculation of surface areas for KPRNA as well as other digital terrain modeling functions.
Purpose:
Originally created for computing the suface area of KPRNA by designated watershed units. Kz_slope is also appropriate for use in a variety of KPRNA surface analysis or map display functions.
Supplemental_Information:
Konza boundary layers, and other KPRNA GIS layers were revised in 1998 to register correctly with 1:12,000 DOQQ images. This coverage will not register correctly with KPRNA coverages created prior to January, 1998.

Kz_slope was visually inspected to assure data quality. Specifically, the coverage was inspected to insure that triangulated polygons did not span more than one watershed and that triangulation along the KPRNA boundary was accurately clipped to the KPRNA border. Additionally, the TIN was inspected to insure that no extraneous polygons or slivers were present outside the KPRNA boundary.

TIN was visually inspected to verify that the entire area of KPRNA was included and that hardlines were included for each treatment watershed active at the time of publication.

Process_Description:
The tringulated irregular network (TIN) for KPRNA was generated by merging USGS DEMs and converting them into an Arc/Info points cover. The TIN was generated using DEM-derived points as mass points, kz_bndry (kzgis001) was input as hardclip lines, and watershed polygons (kz_wat98 - kzgis002) were input as hardline features. Kz_slope was generated with the TINARC command to create polygon coverage with digital terrain attributes.
